Whoopi Goldberg is “really excited” to begin filming “Sister Act 3,” according to Tyler Perry.
Tyler Perry, who is producing the highly anticipated film musical, revealed the news to The Hollywood Reporter this week, saying he believes the film will be “exactly what the country needs.”
The film’s powerhouse producer stated that “the script is being written” and that Tim Federle has inked on to direct.
“We need that feel-good moment in movies where you go, ‘Oh my God, I left there singing,'” Perry said of the project.
During the time of this report by SurgeZirc France, no production details have been made public by Disney, which is rumoured to be planning to release the film on their streaming service, Disney+.
It’s been 29 years since the first “Sister Act” film was released in theatres, becoming a surprise hit and grossing a whopping $231 million at the box office. The following year, “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” was released.
Both films have done well on Disney+, and the company is eager to capitalize on nostalgia by rebooting some of their most popular shows and films from their back catalogue, according to Deadline last week.
Whoopi Goldberg, now 65, is set to reprise her role as Dolores Van Cartier, a lounge singer-turned-nun.
During an interview with James Corden last year, the EGOT legend first revealed the project was in the works.
“They kept saying no one wanted to see it for a long time, and then, quite recently, it turns out that may not be true, people might want to see it,” she told the comedian.
However, before “Sister Act 3,” Goldberg will be seen in “Till,” a historical drama about the brutal murder of 14-year-old African American Emmett Till.
