French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday, Oct. 23, while announcing the extension of the curfews that, “It’s too early today to say whether we’re going towards local or wider reconfigurations. We need to Live at best until the summer of 2021.”

“In this phase, we have no other choice than to reduce our social life as much as possible given the number of infections per day… if we really want to preserve our health system and our fellow citizens,” President Macron said after meeting with René-Dubos hospital center in Pontoise (Val-d’Oise).
Macron added, “We have to do that. In the middle of next week, we’ll have a clearer vision of the impact of the measures we have taken and we will have decisions to take in the coming weeks to adjust things.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Jean Castex had previously warned of, “much harsher measures” if the coronavirus pandemic is not curbed.” While noting that “measures that have already been taken are not intended to be reduced but they will perhaps be strengthened if they are not effective enough to control the spread of the virus, and this will be done either by expanding geographically or by targeting the areas where the virus is spreading the more.”
While speaking on vaccines, the French President said the first vaccine could be available at the end of 2020 or the beginning of 2021 but it’s considered “unlikely” to have as quickly a national strategy that allows responding to the virus.

Macron said, “We’re hoping for treatments, now for vaccines, and then we realized that it was not working completely. Clinical tests are still underway, so things have not stabilized yet, and we can think that we’ll have more visibility at the end of the 1st quarter of 2021.”
