This past Sunday, April 14, Dutch sprinter Lorena Wiebes experienced a cruel lesson in the prestigious Amstel Gold Race.
As the finish line of the most beautiful race of the year in the Netherlands approached, Wiebes made the unfortunate mistake of raising her arms too early in celebration. Little did she know that alongside her in the sprint was Marianne Vos, the seasoned cyclist with over 250 professional victories.

Despite the interruptions, the men’s race also concluded with a sprint, albeit in a smaller group. This time, it was the British rider Tom Pidcock who emerged victorious, crossing the line ahead of Swiss cyclist Marc Hirschi and Belgian rider Tiesj Benoot in Valkenburg.
Notably, the French riders Paul Lapeira, Valentin Madouas, and Quentin Pacher performed admirably, securing respectable positions in the top ten. Lapeira finished in fifth place, Madouas in sixth, and Pacher in eighth, showcasing the strength and talent of French cycling.
