Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has urged European leaders to call French President Emmanuel Macron to order against what he described as “campaign of hatred” against Muslims to avoid further tension between both nations.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan in a speech in Ankara said, “European officials must say ‘stop’ to the hate campaign which is led by Macron which risks further fueling of tensions between Turkey and France”.

The Turkish leader, however, compared the treatment of Muslims in Europe to that of Jews before World War II, alleging that some of the European leaders can be correctly accused  “fascism” and “Nazism”.

“A lynching campaign similar to that against the Jews of Europe before World War II is being waged against the Muslims,” he added while instructing that Turks on Monday to boycott French products.

“Just as in France some say ‘don’t buy Turkish brands, I am addressing my nation from here, above all, don’t pay attention to French brands, don’t buy them,” the Turkish President said.

This comes as the relationship between Turkey and France has recently strained following the incidents in the Eastern Mediterranean and the situation in Libya as well as in Nargorny Karabach, not forgetting the Bill on separatism in France.
