French President Emmanuel Macron mostly referenced Jean-Luc Samos as heroes, during his good wishes to the nation address on December 31. Driver-garbage collector for 17 years in Guyana, he was on the front line during the health crisis by continuing his work while everyone was confined.

President Macron quoted him, referring to these anonymous, committed and united French people “who have held our country to the test”.
“Jean-Luc is a garbage collector driver in Guyana. With his colleagues Anthony and Maxime, they have never stopped working since the start of the pandemic. At the height of the confinement, they constituted this second line which allowed the country to continue living and life to continue,” Mr Macron said.
Although Jean-Luc, 49, didn’t listen to the address live but was told by those around him. “I am surprised by the thing”, he explained to Guyana the 1st, specifying that if the garbage collection had stopped during the seven months of the health crisis in Guyana, it would obviously have been catastrophic.
Meanwhile, Jean-Luc had wished to send a message across to President Emmanuel Macron that he didn’t receive the bonus of 1,000 euros promised at the start of the coronavirus pandemic to employees “on the front line.”

“The bonuses of 1000 euros that you put online and that we were supposed to receive, I never touched that. I have always provided minimum service. I think my team and I should have these bonuses. I don’t think this is a mountain for you!”
