In response to French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement that sending armed reinforcements to support Ukraine was not excluded, Moscow swiftly expressed its disapproval.
On Tuesday, February 27, the Kremlin spokesperson, Dmitri Peskov, stated that sending troops to Ukraine would “not be in the interest” of Western countries. Peskov emphasized that these countries should be aware of the potential consequences of such actions, considering it a significant development in the ongoing conflict.

The Ukrainian government, on the other hand, responded positively to Macron’s remarks. A senior Ukrainian presidential official, in an interview with Reuters, viewed the discussion about possible Western intervention as a positive step.
However, Macron clarified that there was currently no consensus among European nations to send ground troops in an official and endorsed manner.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also distanced himself from Macron’s comments, stating that while the West has provided unprecedented support to Kiev, sending combat troops on the ground in Ukraine is not part of the plan.
Several European leaders echoed Stoltenberg’s stance. The leaders of Sweden, Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic all confirmed that they do not have any plans to deploy troops to the conflict.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, in a more cautious approach, rejected Ukraine’s request for long-range Taurus missiles. Scholz cited responsibility as the reason for not following the example set by France and the United Kingdom.
In addition to addressing the potential ground intervention, Macron also announced the creation of a new coalition to deliver bombs and missiles.
