Prime Minister Jean Castex has today, Wednesday, December 2 announced a government measure to prevent the French from going skiing abroad, “The idea is to prevent the French from getting contaminated in the stations,” he said while on BFMTV and RMC.
The measure is part of the government reason for closing ski lifts in France during the end of the year holidays. In Europe, Italy, Germany, Spain and very soon Austria will also close down their slopes, but Switzerland is keeping its resorts open.
“I seek to protect, even if other countries do not have the same conception”, `Jean Castex said while adding that he was also seeking to apply a principle of equity for the staff of French ski resorts and all the economy affected by the government’s decision to postpone the start of the winter sports season in France.
Prime Minister Jean Castex assured that the ski lifts would be closed during the festive period. “We are managing the pandemic as well as possible and we must anticipate this period of the Christmas holidays we can clearly see that it is a risk zone that could remind us this summer.
“Of course the stations are doing everything they can to have appropriate health protocols, but that is not the question. We are trying to prevent flows, interactions and contacts ”, he finalized.
Ski resorts are scheduled to reopen by next year’s January 20, but this will be subject to how well the spread of the coronavirus is controlled.
