According to Variety, Drake is “Way 2 Sexy” for the Grammys, and he has shockingly withdrawn his two nominations for the upcoming 2022 Grammy Awards.
Drake, 35, was nominated for Best Rap Album for “Certified Lover Boy” and Best Rap Performance for “Way 2 Sexy.”
Though Drake’s representatives declined to comment when reached for comment, the Canadian musician’s close pal, however, confirmed to The Post that it was a decision Drake made and the Grammys honoured his request.
Previously, the “Hotline Bling” rapper had only four Grammy nominations, including Best Rap Album and Best Rap Song. Considering Jay-Z has won 23 Grammys to date, this is still far fewer than his peers.
Currently, the Grammys are the most prestigious awards in the music industry, and they are voted on by members of the Recording Academy, an elite organization made up of performers, producers, and audio engineers.
Drake was one of five artists nominated in each category in which he was nominated. According to Variety, he will not be replaced in either category, and the remaining four artists will now compete for each of the awards.
In a tweet, The Weeknd slammed the Grammys, writing, “The Grammys remain corrupt.” You owe it to me, my fans, and the industry to be transparent…”
The news comes after The Weeknd famously declared earlier this year that he would no longer be attending the Grammys after his album “After Hours” failed to receive any nominations for the 2021 Grammys.
However, the 31-year-old singer has been nominated for two Grammy Awards at the upcoming 2022 ceremony. He was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance for his vocals on Kanye West’s “Hurricane.”
He was also honoured for his contributions to Kanye West’s album “Donda” and Doja Cat’s album “Planet Her.”
While it’s assumed he won’t be attending the show, which is set to air on January 31, 2022, The Weeknd hasn’t withdrawn any of the nominations as of Monday evening.
