Kate Middleton attended the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey today, and her blue Catherine Walker coat dress reflected one of the colours of the Commonwealth flag, and it also revealed a touching hidden meaning.
As The Court Jeweller pointed out on Twitter, the sapphire-and-diamond earrings and necklace she wore were the same ones she wore when she met Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2020.

When Kate Middleton and Prince William met with Zelensky and his wife, Olena, at the time, she wore the earrings and previously unseen necklace with a cornflower blue belted dress.
This isn’t the first time Kate has shown her support for the troubled people of Ukraine through fashion. She recently wore a flag pin and an Alexander McQueen sweater in Ukrainian blue to a Ukrainian cultural centre in London.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore her pillbox hat that was designed by Catherine Walker, who was a favourite of the late Princess Diana and whose clothing the Duchess frequently wears.
Meanwhile, ‘Commonwealth Day’ is an annual event that commemorates the 54 member countries and 2.5 billion people who make up the Commonwealth of Nations around the world.
This is the first time the service has been held in person since the memorable event in 2020 when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended with the royal family before leaving for a life in California.

Unfortunately, the Queen chose not to attend today’s service, remaining at Windsor Castle as she continues to take on light duties following her recovery from COVID-19.
However, she took the occasion to issue a statement reaffirming her commitment to the crown. “In this year of my Platinum Jubilee, it has given me pleasure to renew the promise I made in 1947, that my life will always be devoted in service,” she said.
In the absence of Queen Elizabeth, heir to the throne Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were present, as were the Queen’s cousin Princess Alexandra, Prince William and Kate Middleton.
While Cambridge did not attend the BAFTAs, royal fashion fans are in luck: she will be seen again this week at a St. Patrick’s Day event.
