Iran’s recent attack on Israel has sparked debates and discussions regarding its justification and success. While some argue that the attack achieved its objectives, others claim that Israel outwitted Iran.

Following the operation launched by Iran on April 13, the Israeli authorities reassured their population by stating that no drone or missile had penetrated Israeli territory. The army spokesperson claimed that they had successfully intercepted 99% of the shots.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallan further emphasized that Israel, along with the United States and other partners, had effectively defended its territory.

On the other hand, Iran maintains that it succeeded in its operation by inflicting serious damage and disabling two Israeli army sites. One of these sites is an intelligence centre, while the other is the air base from which IDF planes allegedly took off to strike Iranian interests on April 1.

However, these actions alone may not be sufficient to classify the attack as a military success.

The attack on Israel was primarily a response to a strike attributed to Israel in early April, which targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus and resulted in the deaths of several military commanders.

Iran, feeling the need to retaliate, launched this unprecedented operation directly from its territory to Israel. The aim was to display its strength and send a message to Israel.

Iran’s previous strategy involved relying on allied terrorist groups such as Hamas, Lebanese Hezbollah, and Houthi rebels in Yemen to target its adversaries indirectly and avoid direct retaliation.

However, this time, Iran chose a different approach. By invoking Article 51 of the United Nations Charter on self-defence, Iran justifies its actions as a response to the inaction and silence of the Security Council in condemning Israeli aggressions.

Despite claiming to have achieved its objective, Iranian President Ebrahim Raïssi has issued a warning to Israel, stating that a stronger reaction awaits if Israel or its supporters engage in reckless behaviour.

It is important to note that Iran does not recognize the existence of Israel and has no desire for escalation. Iran’s response was a calculated move, designed to send a message without provoking further conflict.

Iran’s decision to limit the operation to the services used by the Israeli regime to attack their embassy demonstrates a certain level of restraint.

Iranian diplomats caution against any further mistakes by Israel, as they believe Iran’s response would be considerably more severe. Additionally, they warned the United States not to interfere in the conflict.

The international community, including the United Nations and the leaders of the G7 countries, is closely monitoring the situation and will hold meetings to analyze the events that have unfolded.

However, Iran seems to indicate that the case can be considered closed, suggesting that it has no intention of continuing the operation.
