More than a year before their Megxit, British Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle considered relocating to New Zealand before finally deciding to settle down in California, USA.

Governor-General Patsy Reddy, Queen Elizabeth II’s rep. in New Zealand, told the Associated Press that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex discussed the possibility of relocating to the country in 2018 while they visited the country.
Patsy said, “I remember they’d just been down to the Abel Tasman National Park when we sat down and had a drink, and they said that they could imagine living in a place like this and wondered whether we thought it would be theoretically possible. Even possible for them to have a place in New Zealand,”
She continued, “Of course, we said, ‘Sure. It would be fine. There are lots of opportunities to live in New Zealand, but that would be something that they’d have to explore. They were looking at how they might raise their family. And, obviously, they’ve made some decisions since.”
Patsy also disclosed that she felt the conversation was more of an informal conversation than a serious request for assistance because the couple seemed intrigued by the country’s access to nature and friendly people.
The revelation, however, shows that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan were seriously considering leaving the UK fewer than six months into their new marriage then and long before they finally decided on moving to California.
“I thought they were a lovely couple, and I hope they’ve got a great future where they are,” Reddy added.

Meghan and Harry moved to the United States in 2020 after spending time in Canada. They spent $14 million on a Montecito estate, which they now share with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
