Gigi Hadid announced her departure from Twitter following new CEO Elon Musk’s takeover, describing the social media site as a “cesspool of hate & prejudice.”

The supermodel stated on Instagram on Friday that she had disabled her Twitter account due to the huge layoffs the company embarked on after Elon concluded the acquisition of the bird app, which included the human rights team.

“For a long time, but especially with its new leadership. it’s becoming more and more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry, and its [sic] not a place I want to be a part [sic] of,” Hadid wrote of Musk.

She apologized to her supporters on the platform, saying she enjoyed engaging with them without stating how else she hope to connect with them. “I can’t stay it’s a safe place for anyone,” she continued, “nor a social platform that will do more good than harm.”

The model posted a screenshot from an employee who was laid off on Friday.

She put Human Rights Counsel Shannon Raj Singh’s tweet about being laid off from the internet giant alongside her statement.

Twitter laid off approximately half of its employees on Friday, saying the layoffs were “necessary to ensure the company’s success moving forward.”

The 27-year-old says the social media platform has become a “cesspool of hate & bigotry.”

Toni Braxton previously said would be leaving Twitter as well.

“I’m shocked and appalled at some of the ‘free speech’ I’ve seen on this platform since its acquisition. Hate speech under the veil of ‘free speech’ is unacceptable; therefore I am choosing to stay off Twitter as it is no longer a safe space for myself, my sons and other POC,” she wrote last month.
