Celebrations across France turned violent following Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) historic Champions League victory—European club football’s most prestigious title. While fans took to the streets to mark the momentous achievement, chaos and tragedy overshadowed the jubilation.
Two people lost their lives during the festivities. In Dax, a 17-year-old boy was fatally stabbed during a street celebration, according to the national police.
In Paris, a man died after his scooter collided with a car amid the revelry. Both incidents are under investigation, as authorities seek to determine the full circumstances behind the fatalities.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau condemned the violence in a strongly worded social media post, saying: “True PSG fans are getting excited about their team’s magnificent performance.

“Meanwhile, barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris to commit crimes and provoke law enforcement … It is unbearable that it is not possible to party without fearing the savagery of a minority of thugs who respect nothing.”
Violence Leaves Hundreds Injured and Police Under Attack
Nationwide, around 200 people were injured during the night-long celebrations, including 21 police officers. One officer in northwest France suffered a critical eye injury after being struck by fireworks and is currently in an induced coma, according to the national police service.

In Paris alone, 18 officers were injured. An additional three officers sustained injuries in other parts of the country. The clashes also left 192 revellers hurt as street parties in various cities descended into chaos.
Nearly 300 Arrested as PSG Returns to Paris
Despite the violence, French authorities reported that most of the celebrations remained peaceful. However, law enforcement made 294 arrests by 2 a.m., mostly in connection with isolated incidents of vandalism, assault, and public disorder.
Meanwhile, the PSG squad returned from Munich on Sunday afternoon aboard a Qatar Airways jet. The players arrived in Paris at 4 p.m. to continue the celebrations with tens of thousands of enthusiastic fans eager to welcome them home.
