Boris Johnson’s government is once again embroiled in a scandal. Chris Pincher, the Conservative MP in charge of parliamentary discipline, is accused of inappropriately touching two men. He resigned from the government on Thursday, June 30, but remained a deputy.
In his resignation letter, the deputy chief “whip” admits to “drinking too much” and apologizes for “shaming [himself and others].” Chris Pincher, on the other hand, does not directly mention the charges against him in his brief letter.

According to several British media outlets, the 52-year-old Conservative elected official touched two men, including an MP, on Wednesday evening at the Carlton Club in central London, prompting complaints to the Conservative Party.

Chris Pincher remains an MP despite resigning as deputy chief whip, prompting calls for his exclusion from the party and an internal investigation. “It is unthinkable for the Conservatives to ignore a possible sexual assault,” tweeted Angela Rayner, deputy leader of the main opposition Labor Party.
“Boris Johnson must now say how Chris Pincher can remain a Tory MP,” she added, lamenting a “total degradation in the standards of public life” under the prime minister.
Chris Pincher was appointed in February after resigning as a “junior whip” in 2017 after being accused of making sexual advances to an Olympic athlete and potential Conservative candidate.
There can be no question of the Conservatives sweeping a potential sexual assault under the carpet.
Boris Johnson must now answer how Chris Pincher can remain a Conservative MP at all.
Standards in public life have been utterly degraded on this PM’s watch.

This case is the latest in a string of embarrassing sex cases for the ruling party in recent months.
An unnamed MP was arrested and later released on bail in mid-May on suspicion of rape, another resigned in April for watching pornography on his mobile phone in the House, and a former MP was sentenced to 18 months in prison in May for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.

Boris Johnson’s government has also been rocked by scandals, such as Downing Street parties despite anti-Covid restrictions during the pandemic, which resulted in the leader facing a vote of no confidence from his own party, which he narrowly avoided.
He has already paid a high price for these cases in the polls, with the Conservatives being soundly defeated in two by-elections in June.
