Prince William and Kate Middleton have triggered criticism after they were spotted strolling with Prince Edward’s family, as they have been accused of violating the UK government’s COVID-19 restriction rule tagged “Rule of Six,” which disallows a group of more than six people from meeting.
Prince William and his wife Kate were seen with their three kids; Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2 as they went visiting the Christmas-themed Luminate trail walk on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate on Sunday, Daily Mail reported.
What actually triggered the backlash was seeing William’s uncle Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, and their two children, Lady Louise, 17, and James, Viscount Severn, 13, walking alongside them at various points.
Luminate Sandringham is a mile-long path that was open to locals through mid-January which offers a scenic stroll, a fire pit and stalls with holiday food and drink.
A royal source told the Daily Mail that in their effort to follow the rules, “the two families were given separate consecutive slots to visit the trail before it opened to the general public. They arrived and departed in their own family groups.
“As anyone with young children will know, there were moments on the 90-minute walk where it was difficult to keep the two family groups apart, particularly at bottlenecks on the trail.”
Social media users didn’t waste time to express their displeasure over the rule violation, whether intentional or not as they took turns in commenting how they feel.
A Twitter user commented, “One rule for them and another for us.”
Another user said, “I guess that following the rules is only for the plebs.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton are spending the Christmas holidays at their country home of Anmer Hall in Norfolk, which is currently on Tier 2 lockdown, which prohibits more than six people from meeting if they are not from the same household.
