Zendaya stunned on the red carpet at the Ballon D’Or in Paris on Monday, dressed in an open-back vintage Roberto Cavalli gown adorned with a golden creature possibly part scorpion, part centipede that ran down her spine.
She paired the look’s built-in jewellery with a sleek, side-parted bun and chunky gold Jennifer Fisher hoop earrings, allowing the look’s built-in jewellery to take centre stage.
One fan couldn’t help but think the creepy-crawly dress, from Cavalli’s Fall 2000 collection, was inspired by the actress’ role in the “Spider-Man” franchise.

“Zendaya as Dr. Octopus but make it fashion,” wrote @dayacrue, posting side-by-side shots of the back of the star’s gown and Alfred Molina’s metal-armed Doc Ock.
Zendaya promptly shared the post, adding, “We love a reference.”

The “Euphoria” star, who arrived at the event on the arm of her boyfriend and “Spider-Man” co-star Tom Holland, frequently chooses vintage designs to make a statement on the red carpet.
She wore a vintage Versace gown from 1996 to the Green Carpet Fashion Awards last year.

“[Zendaya] was actually born in 1996, so I thought that it’d be fun [for her] to wear something from that year,” her stylist, Law Roach, told British Vogue at the time. “It’s taking her back if Zendaya had been of age then, maybe she would have been a Versace model.”

Most recently, at the 2021 BET Awards, the Emmy winner wore another archival Versace gown, this time a plunging purple number from 2003 previously seen on Beyoncé.

“Get you a stylist with a ARCHIVE!!!!” Roach made the remark on social media at the time. We can’t wait to see what other treasures the stylist has hidden away in her closet.
