France is currently experiencing a surge in coronavirus cases as daily record increased to an alarming rate of over 26,000 infections in a day, the highest the French country has ever seen since the beginning of the pandemic, according to data released by health ministry department on Saturday.

According to the health ministry report, there were 26,896 confirmed new cases bringing the total number of cases to 718,684, while the number of death from the coronavirus shoots by 54 to 32,684 as of October.

The country’s third-largest city Lyon and about three other cities are expected to shut down bars to join the nation’s capital Paris and Marseille who are currently close in a move to contain the spread of the virus since infection number continues to increase, according to France Health Minister on Thursday.
The Mayor of Lyon in previous news indicated his unwillingness to close bars.
“In view of the latest data, it seems to me that we are still able to cope with the epidemic,” he said Wednesday referring to the devices put in place this week on the elderly and the youths.
