Taylor Swift’s long-awaited new album, “Midnights,” was released on Friday, and on the synth-heavy standout track “Vigilante S—t,” she sings of a scorned woman who teams up with Swift’s narrator to seek vengeance.
Many fans of the singer associated the song’s lyrics with the most famous “revenge dress” of all time, Princess Diana’s off-the-shoulder Christina Stambolian LBD, which she wore on the same day then-Prince Charles publicly admitted his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles in 1994.
And last November, Taylor Swift sent fans into a frenzy by channelling the late royal in a strikingly similar style for an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”
It is pointless trying to deny the similarities between the two gowns as the similarities are too close, even scorned woman Chrishell Stause pointed them out! But, Swift denied being influenced by Princess Diana.
“I just liked the dress. It was a black dress I liked,” the singer told “Access Hollywood” at the time.
Now, almost a year later, it appears that there was more to this particular style choice. The “Anti-Hero” singer is known for hiding Easter eggs for fans to find, and she frequently does so with her clothing.
“This is one of my favorite ways to do this, because you wear something that foreshadows something else, and people don’t really usually find out this one immediately,” Swift told Entertainment Weekly in 2019.
“But they know you’re probably sending a message — they’ll figure it out in time.”
