Kanye West has hired Melinda Gates’ former attorney Robert Stephan Cohen, who has extensive experience representing billionaires in divorces.
On Wednesday, a representative for the senior partner at Cohen Clair Lans Greifer Thorpe & Rottenstreich LLP confirmed that Kanye West had recently hired him as counsel for the rapper’s divorce from Kim Kardashian.

Kanye West has hired attorney Nicholas A. Salick in California, where the case is being tried because Cohen is based in New York.
Robert Stephan Cohen spoke about his process in dealing with celebrity divorces in a 2021 Insider profile, which included pulling financial statements, reviewing the details of his client’s assets, and conducting a 90-minute intro interview about “the psychology of how to deal with the divorce.”
The attorney said of what he does for a living, “There’s the bad part, the destruction of a marriage. In one of his most high-profile cases, Cohen assisted Gates, 58, in settling her divorce from Bill Gates for an estimated $76 billion.
Cohen is West’s fifth lawyer in this divorce case, as the billionaire entertainer has had a revolving door of attorneys representing him over the last year and a half.
The Yeezy founder Kanye West fired attorney Chris Melcher in March, just days before a scheduled court hearing.
According to TMZ, West fired the lawyer because their relationship “had become extremely difficult, with little communication.”
Samantha Spector was hired by the father of four, but she decided to leave the case just two months later, in May.

Although no specifics about her departure were provided, Spector stated that the reason was “an irreconcilable breakdown in the attorney-client relationship.”
Kim Kardashian, 41, has previously expressed her dissatisfaction with her ex’s inconsistent advice.
