The passing of arms attests to the current tensions in Ukraine. On Saturday, January 22, the UK officially accused Russia of “seeking to install a pro-Russian leader in Kiev” and “considering” occupying Ukraine, a day after brief US-Russian talks. Moscow has described the charges as “absurdities.”
In response to the charge from the UK, the Russian Foreign Ministry tweeted on Sunday. “We call on the Foreign Office to stop spreading nonsense.”

Liz Truss, the head of British diplomacy, slammed “the extent of Russian activity aimed at undermining Ukraine” in an abrasive statement. “According to our information, the Russian government is attempting to install a pro-Russian leader in Kiev while planning an invasion and occupation of Ukraine,” she added.
According to the Foreign Ministry, ‘ex-Ukrainian MP Yevgeniy Murayev is seen as a potential candidate,’ but he is not alone: Russian intelligence services have ‘connections with many former Ukrainian politicians.’
NEW: We will not tolerate Kremlin plot to install pro-Russian leadership in Ukraine.
The Kremlin knows a military incursion would be a massive strategic mistake & the UK and our partners would impose a severe cost on Russia. https://t.co/XfxSlQqMt9

Thus, British diplomacy recalls Sergui Arbouzov (the first Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2012 to 2014, then Acting Prime Minister), Andri Klouev (who led the presidential administration of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych), Volodymyr Sivkovytch (the former deputy secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council), or even Mykola Azarov (the Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2010 to 2014).
“Some of them are in contact with Russian intelligence agents who are currently planning an attack on Ukraine,” according to the ministry.

Ukraine’s presidency stated on Sunday that it will continue to dismantle any pro-Russian group. “Our state will continue its policy of dismantling any oligarchic and political structure that could work to destabilize Ukraine or be complicit with the Russian occupiers,” declared Mykhalo Podoliak, adviser to Ukraine’s president.
These accusations are “deeply concerning” to the United States. “This type of conspiracy is extremely concerning. “The Ukrainian people have the sovereign right to decide their own future, and we stand with our democratically elected partners in Ukraine,” said Emily Horne, White House National Security Council spokeswoman.
