On iOS 15, Apple has added new sharing and personalized recommendation features for Podcasts, all with the goal of helping you discover new shows to listen to. Starting today, personalized recommendation sections on the “Listen Now” page will show you podcasts similar to the ones you like.
They’ll be titled “If You Like ‘Show Name’…” and will then list titles in the same category, theme, or format. They could also include shows from the same studio or titles that other users who are listening to that podcast are also following.
You’ll also notice new sections with recommendations based on the topics you usually enjoy. If you listen to a lot of shows in the Books category, for example, you’ll notice sections recommending titles in related categories like Arts and Design.
These new personalized recommendation features are available today, September 21st, for those who have already installed iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and tvOS 15, and will be available for macOS Monterey when it launches this fall.
However, for the time being, they are only available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.
Podcasts will also get the new Shared with You feature, which was introduced with Apple iOS 15. When someone sends you channels, episodes, or shows via Messages, you’ll see a new Shared with You section in the Listen Now page in Podcasts.
A button that says “From contact” will show you who sent it, and you can tap it to bring up the part of your Messages conversation where it was shared so you can respond.
While the feature could be a great way to find new shows to follow, you can completely disable it in Podcast’s Settings under Messages. Individual recommendations can also be deleted by pressing on the item and selecting “Remove.”
Take note that the section will not appear until you have received at least one recommendation, and it will disappear once you have deleted the last item on the list.
