Meghan Markle’s overjoyed mother, Doria Ragland, 64, is currently helping out with baby Lilibet at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s $14.5 million Montecito, California home, though she was not present at the birth of the child on June 4 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
When Archie was born in May 2019, Meghan’s mom flew to the UK for the birth of her first grandchild where she stayed for some weeks with her daughter and son-in-law before the baby was born.
A photo that was released then, showed happy Doria shining, plus the Queen and Prince Philip who were meeting their great-grandson for the first time. Meghan’s mom was the one who told her ex-husband Thomas Markle that Meghan had given birth to Archie at the time.
Co-authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their 2020 book “Finding Freedom,” that “Doria messaged Thomas with the news, which Meghan had asked her to. The new mother did not want him to find out after the rest of the world. But she didn’t want to know whether her father replied to her mother’s text.”
Though Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not talked about it in public, Doria is believed to be very close to her daughter and her husband Prince Harry and also visits them in their California home.
During the Duke and Duchess of Sussex tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan spoke of her mother saying, “Look, they hunted my mom down, and you’ve never heard her say a word. She’s remained in silent dignity for four years, watching me go through this.”
It’s not yet clear whether Meghan’s father Thomas Markle was told about his daughter’s second child Lilibet on a phone call or he heard about it like every other person out there.
