Members of the Hindu religion are attacking reality TV star Kim Kardashian on social media for wearing an earring that has a symbol of their sacred “om” in one of her recent photoshoots, calling the act by the supermodel “disrespectful”.
Kim shared some photos of herself lounging on a bed with a pink bed cover while rocking the oversize silver hoops, with heavy makeup and a sheer red outfit on Twitter last week … an act that triggered a backlash from the religious group who claim that she’d reduced the spiritual symbol to a mere fashion style.
After sharing the images, one user fired, “STOP CULTURAL APPROPRIATION OF INDIAN CULTURE!!!” while another wrote about the same image, “MY RELIGION IS NOT YOUR AESTHETIC WTF,”
For those who may not know, the Hindu religion sees the symbol as “ultimate reality” and is worn to express devotion to the religion. And the word, in most cases is chanted before Hindu, Buddhist and Jain celebrations.
The criticism also attracted the attention of the president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, Rajan Zed, who described the act as “deeply trivializing” for the Forbes listed billionaire who has identified as Christian to commercialize it.

Addressing the matter on his website, Zed wrote, “Inappropriate usage of sacred Hindu icons or deities or concepts or symbols for commercial or other agenda was not okay as it hurt the devotees. [It] was not meant to be used as a fashion statement or to become a tool for sexy fashion.”
A Twitter user also asked, “What right do you have to talk about my religion like this ???” with another saying, “Is now a good time to mention that the Om is a sacred symbol to Hindus and not just an accessory?”
Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian is a confirmed Christian who was baptized in a traditional Orthodox Christian ceremony in 2019, a UK Sun report confirmed.
