British Prince William spoke emotionally at the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland on Saturday, where he recalled his relationship with the country, which includes receiving one of the most devastating news of his life while he was there.

Prince William, 38, said, “Along with listening this week, there is something I do want to tell you. Scotland is incredibly important to me and will always have a special place in my heart. I’ve been coming to Scotland since I was a small boy.
“As I grew up, I saw how my grandmother relishes every minute she spends here. And my father is never happier than when walking among the hills. In short, Scotland is the source of some of my happiest memories. But also, my saddest. I was in Balmoral when I was told that my mother had died.”
William who is the next to the British throne after his father Prince Charles spoke on how Scotland’s natural beauty provided peace for him, and as a result, he was able to confront such a hard truth.
“Still in shock, I found sanctuary in the service at Crathie Kirk that very morning. And in the dark days of grief that followed, I found comfort and solace in the Scottish outdoors. As a result, the connection I feel to Scotland will forever run deep,” he said.
Prince William’s experience with Scotland will be incomplete without mentioning how he met his wife, Kate, as he went on to say Scotland was the site of one of his happiest memories as well … meeting wife, Kate Middleton, who both studied at St. Andrews.
“And yet alongside this painful memory, is one of great joy. Because it was here in Scotland twenty years ago this year, that I first met Catherine,” he added.

The trip to Scotland which was announced on Wednesday 19, the same day Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrated their three year wedding anniversary comes two days after the Duke of Cambridge insisted in a video that was shared on Instagram that his parent’s divorce was caused partly by Diana’s controversial 1995 interview with the BBC.
