Tour de France had quite a smooth run with no positive case for the coronavirus, but the Giro is, unfortunately becoming the unexpected with more confirmed cases in the record.

The smooth run of the Giro d’Italia is currently in doubt as the coronavirus pandemic is taking a toll on the sports after two riders were confirmed positive for the virus, a record that was not anywhere near Tour de France.

Confirmed positive for the coronavirus were two cyclists and six assistants from different teams in a test that was carried out on the rest day. The Mitchelton team, with four affected employees and a positive test from Simon Yates, leaves the Giro.

El nederlandés Steven Kruijswijk, del Jumbo and one of the favourites that is still remaining in this Giro that is starting to lose its grip, is one of the infected cyclists. Next person is a runner from Sunweb, without a disclosed identity as at the time of writing this article.

Wilco Keldermann competes in this team, second in the general classification and now one of the candidates to win the race.

Then the six cases are some assistants from different teams. Four are reportedly from the Mitchelton, the group with the highest case of affected persons for the coronavirus. The remaining confirmed two cases are Ineos and AG2R, according to a joint statement from the UCI and the Giro world.

Unfortunately, Simon Yates and Steven Kruijswijk have been ruled out by the coronavirus, while, Geraint Thomas and “Supermán” López, abandoned due to falls.
